Nation to Host Aviation Stakeholders Convention

Ethiopia will host the 11th Aviation Stakeholders Convention that aims to promote and serve the industry from May 7-9, 2023.

The convention is jointly organized by Ethiopian Airlines and African Airlines Association (AFRAA).

Briefing the media today, Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew said the airlines is very pleased to host this big aviation stakeholders convention.

Aviation Stakeholders Convention is one of Africa’s major forums for air transport industry stakeholders to dialogue, exchange knowledge and experiences for the development of the travel ecosystem.

According to him, the “convention will be helpful in bringing all stakeholders together to discuss about the unique challenges of African aviation and to find solutions to challenges.”

The Government of Ethiopia, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in particular, is supporting this convection, it was learned.

African Airlines Association Secretary General, Abderahmane Berthe said on his part the convention will deliberate ways of changing the narrative of African aviation industry, creating conducive environment, and enhancing the performance of airlines in the continent.

Digitalization, cyber security, enhancing cargo operations, among others, are expected to be discussed during the convention.

“I think it is essential to change the future of our aviation industry with transformative ideas and action,” the secretary general pointed out.

Representatives of civil aviation authorities, airports, air navigation service providers, ground handlers, regulators and other pertinent stakeholders are expected to take part in the convention.

NOA tasks media on census awareness

The Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari has charged media practitioners to raise public awareness on the upcoming national census.

Abari urged the media to saturate Nigerian airwaves and space with all the needed information on the population exercise.

He made the appeal on Thursday in Kano shortly after visiting the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as part of the public enlightenment and mobilisation efforts for the success of the headcount.

According to him, the national census publicity committee was created to create more awareness on the importance of the population census to the development of the nation.

He said that traditional institution has a vital role to play in enlightening their subjects on need to fully participate on the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

“We have also reached out to development associations and non-governmental groups to mobilise residents on the need to participate in the exercise,” said Abari.

According to Abari, the committee is holding a town hall meeting with the aim of engaging all stakeholders to achieved the set objectives.

“We are sure that our outing would play a significant role in reaching out to the general populace so that they will be well informed on the importance of this national assignment in the development of the nation,” he said. .

Buhari performs Umrah rituals in Makkah

President Muhammadu Buhari has successfully performed Umrah rituals, amid tight security, upon his arrival at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the president along side members of his entourage were led by a delegation from the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami in performing the rituals.

The Nigerian leader had earlier visited some historic religious places in Madinah on Tuesday and Wednesday before he proceeded to Makkah for the Umrah.

President Buhari had also visited and prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque.

He arrived in the Kingdom on an eight-day official visit on Tuesday.
