Ethiopia Accomplishes Spectacular Job of Planting 566 Mln Seedlings Exemplary to Whole World: PM Abiy

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed underscored that Ethiopia has accomplished a spectacular job today by planting over 566 trees in 12 hours which gives lesson not only to Ethiopia but to Africa and the whole world.

Prime Minister Abiy announced that Ethiopia has made history by planting more than 566 million seedlings from dawn to dusk, breaking its own record.

“First of all, I want to say congratulations to the entire Ethiopian people. Today, we have accomplished a very proud task that gives lessons to Ethiopia, Africa and the whole world,” the prime minister said.

Abiy added that climate change is believed to be a threat to the world and it has been becoming a pressing issue for discussion.

However, the prime minister argues the works that have been done to mitigate the problem pragmatically are not very strong, in the way that Ethiopia has started.

When Ethiopia pledges to plant 50 billion saplings, the country is not relying on its resources but its citizens, according to him.

As a result, the country has started a very proudful career, Abiy said, adding that the result is also very proudful for us and the rest of the world.

Ethiopia is now planting trees massively in its initiative not only to green the environment but also to earn money from carbon sales, the premier noted.

Even in the past fiscal year, some 52 million USD was earned from the sale of carbon, he indicated. But Ethiopia has huge potential to earn more revenue from carbon sales.

Abiy also called Ethiopians to repeat today’s historical achievement in other spheres of development.

He particularly urged Ethiopians to consolidate peace and work together to change the country.
