Prime Minister Abiy Engages in Comprehensive Talks with President Putin on Nuclear and Defense Cooperation


Moscow: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with President Vladimir Putin of Russia on a wide range of issues, including energy, agriculture, healthcare development, and defense cooperation. The discussions also covered shared interests, including the signing of agreements to jointly develop a nuclear power plant for clean energy and social utility.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is attending the international conference, World Atomic Week-the largest global event dedicated to the nuclear sector and related industries-which commenced on Thursday in Moscow, Russia. Speaking at the opening of the event, Prime Minister Abiy underscored that Ethiopia has already taken concrete steps, with a roadmap developed in partnership with the Russian Federation to build nuclear infrastructure, train personnel, and strengthen regulatory frameworks.



Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the importance of pursuing nuclear power responsibly, with careful planning, the highest safety standards, and by building strong local capacity. He noted that for Ethiopia, nuclear power is a strategic step in becoming an active participant in artificial intelligence, industry, and innovation.



On the margins of the conference, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also conferred with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko regarding bilateral and international issues.
