Ikot ekpene: The Federal Ministry of Justice has announced its strategic repositioning to adopt technology and digital transformation aimed at enhancing justice delivery across the nation. Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, made this announcement at the ongoing Top Management Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Justice in Ikot Ekpene.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the theme of the retreat is 'Positioning for Digital Transformation.' Fagbemi emphasized that the ministry must adopt digital strategies to meet the growing legal demands and societal pressures. The retreat will help evaluate the ministry's current institutional position, define its future direction, and map out the necessary steps to achieve its objectives.
Fagbemi highlighted the importance of adopting technology to enhance justice delivery and stated that the justice sector is crucial to national development. He noted the challenges faced by the criminal justice sector, including inadequate access to justice, overcrowded correctional facilities, and delays in trials, which require urgent and technology-driven solutions.
Earlier, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, stated that the retreat aims to deepen institutional capacity in Electronic Content Management (ECM). She noted that this would enhance digital case management and the integration of Artificial Intelligence within legal workflows.
Jeddy-Agba described the retreat as a platform for strategic dialogue, practical learning, and collective ownership of the ministry's reform priorities. She stressed the importance of embracing digital tools and adaptive leadership as the ministry transitions into the final phase of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021-2025) and implements the revised National Policy on Justice.
Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, while declaring the retreat open, praised the Federal Ministry of Justice for embracing digital transformation. Eno stated that digital innovations would reduce stress, speed up trials, and decongest custodial centers in the country. He also noted that the theme of the retreat was timely and apt, ensuring that participants would return revitalized and ready to improve service delivery.
