Ethiopia’s Pursuit of Sustainable Sea Access Gains International Momentum: President Taye


Addis ababa: Ethiopia’s pursuit of reliable and sustainable access to a seaport is gaining international recognition, according to President Taye Atske Selassie. The President made these remarks as he inaugurated the joint session of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) and the House of Federation (HoF) this afternoon.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, President Taye emphasized that the core of Ethiopia’s foreign relations is rooted in national interest and the dignity of its citizens. By building on this foundation, Ethiopia’s geostrategic position is being reinforced, allowing the nation to transition from an observer to an agenda-setter and influencer on the global stage.



He asserted the importance of Ethiopia securing reliable sea access while ensuring equitable benefits from its transboundary resources. The President highlighted the government’s ongoing peaceful and diplomatic efforts concerning water resources, which are essential to Ethiopia’s existence.



President Taye mentioned the significant achievements resulting from these efforts, with the completion and inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) being the most notable success, having successfully navigated various challenges. He also noted that the quest for reliable and sustainable sea access has reached an advanced stage, with growing acceptance from the international community.



Moreover, the President addressed the repatriation of citizens facing hardship and abuse in foreign countries, emphasizing that this initiative will continue with strengthened efforts. He highlighted the government’s commitment to further engaging with Ethiopians living abroad and those of Ethiopian origin in contributing to their homeland’s affairs.
