Addis Ababa: Prime Minister Abiy said that the inspiring start of the Sof Omar project in Oromia Region underscores the importance of strong project management.

The premier said on his social media that ‘Last year, when we launched the book “Generation Medemer,” we dedicated the proceeds from sales in the Oromia Region to developing the Sof Omar area. Today, we witnessed the remarkable progress made. ‘

The prime minister stated the inspiring start of the Sof Omar project underscores the importance of strong project management.

This progress is already boosting employment and will accelerate living standards in the community, he indicated.

Bale, with its rich history and natural endowments, is a high-potential area, Abiy said, adding that ‘Its attractive landscapes, coupled with infrastructure development and improved connectivity, can catalyze further growth. Nearby Dinsho Park adds to the area’s appeal.’

‘Generation Medemer” is the third series of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s book.

Abiy has previously p
ublished two books titled “Medemer” and “Medemer Journey.”

This latest series, “Generation Medemer”, is published in Amharic, Afan Oromo, and English languages.

The proceedings of the book is being used to restore historical and tourist attractions in regions.

Addis Ababa: The Secretary General of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Abdérahmane Berthé highlighted the efforts being carried out to expedite the implementation of a Single African Air Transport Market.

The Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) is a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, to create a single unified air transport market in Africa, liberalize civil aviation and drive the continent’s economic integration agenda.

The Declaration on the establishment of a Single Africa Air Transport Market was adopted by the African Union (AU) Assembly in 2015.

SAATM was formally established and launched on the 29 January 2018 by African Heads of States and Government.

It is to be recalled that 17 African countries, including Ethiopia, have agreed to start the single market for air transport on a trial basis.

The agreement removes restrictions imposed by African-owned airlines on commercial and market-oriented flights from one country to another.

African Airlines Association (A
FRAA) Secretary General, Abdérahmane Berthé told ENA that there are several obstacles that prevent the African aviation industry from growing as expected.

Lack of sufficient air transport in the continent and the growing inflation are some of these bottlenecks, he indicated.

Abdérahmane mentioned that we are at a time when policy makers should work with focus to overcome the challenges of the sector and to accelerate single air transport market in Africa.

He stated that the implementation of single African air transport market will play a greater role in the development of the aviation industry and the expansion of mutual market connections.

The secretary general stated that many countries have signed the agreement, however he stressed te need for swift implementation.

According to him, the association is working closely with the relevant bodies to accelerate its implementation.

Especially, he pointed out that the African Civil Aviation Commission is working with the issue.

When the African Free Trade
Zone implemented, Single African Air Transport Market will play a greater role in the expansion of the continent’s market, he added.

Therefore, he stressed the need to use the market potentials in the air transport sector and work together for the development of air transportation in the continent.

Addis Ababa: Pakistani giant pharmaceutical company, Macter International limited, showing interest to engage in the pharmaceutical sector in Ethiopia’s Kilinto Industrial Park.

Industrial Parks Development Corporation CEO Aklilu Tadesse held a discussion with President of Macter International limited, Shahnawaz Sajid,

On the occasion, the CEO briefed the president about the great attention given by the government to the pharmaceutical sector and explained the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.

He elaborated the ideas related to infrastructures provided by the corporation to the sector as well as the investment services.

Apart from the discussion, the company’s president, Shahnawaz Sajid visited the infrastructure and current production activities of Kilinto Industrial Park.

Macter International limited is a giant pharmaceutical based in Pakistan with over 40 years of experience working with international partners and has a market for its products in Asia, Africa, United Arab Emirates and other countries
of the world.

The government of Ethiopia has established 13 industrial parks specialized in various manufacturing sectors including textile, agro-processing and pharmaceuticals.

Kilinto Industrial Park, which is constructed on 279 hectares, specializes in pharmaceutical products.

Addis Ababa: Ye Lemat Tirufat’ (Bounty of the Basket) development program, which is being implemented in Ethiopia with the objective to ensuring food self-sufficiency, has been showing good progress by creating interest and motivation among farmers and pastoral communities all across the country, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Recall Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched “Yelemat Tirufat” development campaign, which focuses on nutritional opulence in November, 2022.

The objective is to boost productivity and production of dairy, eggs, chicken, and honey and related products as well as intensify efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency and ensure nutritional opulence at the family and national levels.

It is designed by putting into consideration the wealth of resources that the country is endowed with including knowledge and skills of the hard-working farmers, the diverse and untapped livestock, fishery, and agiculture.

Speaking to ENA, State Minister of Agriculture, Fikru Regassa said the programm
e aims to support the country in its efforts to ensure improved livelihoods, food security and nutrition in the country.

Since the start of the program, the production and productivity of milk, chicken meat and eggs, honey and fish have made overall achievements in the past two years, he added.

‘Thanks to our Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, that we started ‘Ye Lemat Tirufat’ program two years ago. Now, it has been really showing good progress. It has created a great interest and motivation among farmers and pastoralist communities all across the country,’ he added.

Moreover, he elaborated that the production of milk has been increasing and brought tangible results.

The government is determined to quadruple milk production from current 7.1 billion litres to 28.4 billion litres by 2031 under this programme.

It is indicated for instance that more than 2 billion liters of milk, 1.4 billion eggs, 200,000 tons of meat and 110,000 tons of honey have been produced over a period of 9 months during the current fiscal y
ear as part of the program.

‘We are also working to enhance milk handling and processing capabilities, ensuring the quality of milk through making use of the latest technologies.’

He pointed out that 500,000 animals were crossbred annually before the implementation of the program, however he said the last ten months alone; 2.2 million animals have been crossbred.

On the other hand, Fikru pointed out 42 million chickens were distributed in the last financial year, while 62 million chickens have been distributed in ten months of the current fiscal year, he added.

The honey and fish production have also registered great achievements.

The state minister elaborated that the regions have been working on identifying their own blessings resources, so there has been a change in enhancing productivity and improving the livelihood of people.
